En su momento compitieron duramente con los Rolling.
La tragedia hizo acto de presencia en pleno apogeo de la bada en 1977 cuando Van Zant (el cantante), Gaines (uno de los guitarristas)junto con la hermana de Gaines (en el coro) y el manager se hicieron paté en un accidente de aviación.

Rocanrol potentísimo, con tres guitarras en simultáneo en el escenario. La canción que sigue a continuación es un inmejorable ejemplo de esto. El impresionante riff al final de la canción quita el aliento.
